Will it hurt my credit score to cancel a debit card with auto-pay transactions still going?

Jay asked:

I’ve been thinking about switching banks and closing my account at my current one, but I can’t remember the passwords for a few bills that get paid automatically under my account now. If I cancel the card, will it hurt my credit if the transactions get denied? By the way, I already know that my credit score would be affected by the dropping of the card..I’m just wondering what the effects would be from the auto-pay transactions.

I heard that comparing auto loans before shopping for a car is a prudent thing to do. But I’ve also heard that every time you apply for a loan your credit rating is negatively affected. What’s the truth?

How much does your credit score increase when you pay off an auto loan?

elmdee asked:

The last time I viewed my credit report, it did not have my auto loan as paid off. I had paid it off about a week before my credit report was pulled. Does anyone know how much that will increase my credit score? My FICO score was 545 and I am wondering if it will increase significant enough to be considered for a home loan. I know the score is pretty low, but you never know with the housing market today.

I’m curious to see what rate I would get on a car loan but wanted to make sure it doesn’t affect my credit score. I heard auto loan and mortgage credit checks don’t show up on your report (thus bringing down your score). Is this true?

I’ve had my car for 2 years now and its been set on auto draft since day one so its always been paid on time without an issue. How much does this raise my credit score? I also have a small credit card that has also been paid on time for 2 years now. I’ve always paid at least 5 times the minimum payment, never been over my limit, and always pay at least 2 weeks early. How much can this boost my credit score?

The Dude asked:

My wife and I are expecting a child soon (that’s the good news) and we need to get a vehicle with more than two doors! Due to a job loss and the following reduction in income our credit is seriously banged up (that’s the bad news) Fortunately, we are back on our feet again but the past credit issues continue to haunt us.

I have done some research, but everything that I have come across seems pretty shady Are there any legitimte auto financing options available for us?

How long does it take for auto credit to show up on your records?

Killer_swath asked:

I recently took out an auto loan for my car. I have enough to pay the car off, I just want to build my credit and I know that car credit looks good on credit records. How long do I need to make payments before auto credit will appear on my record? I have heard some people saying 6 months. The dealer (who might just want more money) said 12 months. When should I pay my car off?

Please provide support if you can (links).

When applying for an auto loan do they only check balances on accounts or can BOA check actual transactions?

Zoe asked:

I have had two checking and two savings accounts with Bank of America for a couple of years and thought I should look into their auto loans prior to going to a dealer. I am wondering though if they are able to look at actual transactions or just view balances when doing the credit check. I assume any other place wouldn’t have access but since my account is with them is that something they may do?

Any info would be great!
