Oxygen sensor bought and replaced by the repair shop is $166, while in the auto parts store it is $70, to do it yourself. Can somebody explain?

in order to keep the hourly rate down they mark up your parts over 100%. how’s it working for you? 29eh

If you buy an apple from the grocery store you will pay more than if you bought it from the farmer.

It is called “mark up” and it happens everywhere. br549

They can set just about any price they want for the part plus labor.
If you go to a dealers shop,it will cost a lot more than a local repair shop (in most cases).
Some repair shops will charge for labor if you bring the part with you, some will charge what their supplier charges them with no markup for the part.
You need to ask before you have any service work done at a shop.
At least get estimates first. Ralph T

Average auto mark up is 150% on parts. If it was $70 for you at a local store, they only paid $55.
That is how the real world works. Nothing is free and everything has a price.

Try paying a shop to do brakes…..OUCH! Rod Knocker

The price the shop charges you for a part is known as list price and the price you pay at the parts store is retail price. Believe it or not the store sets list price, not the shop. Some shops charge somewhere in between the two prices. Mark
